As I research more on our founding fathers, I look at the decision point they came to. Giving up their life, family, and wealth to break free of the tyranny of England to live a free life to follow their Creator and Savior Jesus Christ for them and those after them. The founders concluded the Declaration of Independence by stating, “For the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Before Rush Limbaugh, there was a journalist called Paul Harvey who describes the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Exodus 2:23-25:
23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
Our founding fathers made a covenant with God and were willing to give up everything they had for that covenant and commitment of the belief that it was the Lord’s intention to create this country. Would not God honor that covenant as he did with the Israelites as we pray and cry out to Him to deliver us from the principalities that are controlling this country.
As we contemplate where we are as a country and the freedoms and faith we have come to take for granted, perhaps now is the time to ask ourselves, ‘Where do we Stand?” Would we be willing to make the same sacrifices for those after us so they can live in the same freedoms we once enjoyed? Would we lay our life down to fight for the liberty this country has stood for?
Matt 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
Patrick Henry is famous for one of his quotes “…Give me liberty or give me death”. Are we committed to Jesus Christ and to our country as he? History always tends to come back around and bring us back to our beginnings. Are we there now?
